Like someone with oily skin, the concept of putting something with the word "oil" in the product name on my face was an exercise that had eliminated me for years. Facial oils, cleansing oils – you name it, there was no place near my skin. However, thanks to a small thing called double cleaning, the concept of starting your cleaning routine has come from an oil that has gone all the way from a niche K beauty care step to the full-on-mainstream. (And yes – It's something that everyone, regardless of skin type – can enter.)
"Because oil dissolves oil, they are ideal for use as detergents," Joshua Zeichner, chief of cosmetic and clinical research at Mount Sinai Hospital
in New York City, tells attract. "Cleaning oils usually contain an oil base and along with a traditional skin cleansing ingredient called a surfactant that helps to bind the skin to the skin and remove it without interfering with the skin's barrier." And unlike traditional makeup-removing wipes (or even micellar water), cleaning oils are some of the mildest products that will still ensure that every last trace of waterproof mascara and foundation is removed. (Some are even packed with good ingredients that will actively nourish the skin and give a deep purity.) Check out 16 of our favorite cleaning oils.
