- Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's security costs are no longer covered by Canada.
- Canada will stop funding its security costs sometime in March.
Welp, now that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are trying to live their most normal lives in Canada after
escaping from When they step back from their royal duties, I guess it's fair to start treating them as true non-royal, right? In addition to losing their high HRH titles (His and Her Royal Highness) and their "Sussex Royal" brand, Meghan and Harry will also lose their government protection in Canada.
Earlier today, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) announced that the protection they have given Meghan, Harry and their son Archie since November officially expires in March. It's unclear when that will happen, but Public Security Minister Bill Blair says the service will stay "over the coming weeks" to coincide with their active king's end date – March 31.
The RCMP issued a statement through CBC on the matter and wrote:
"The Duke and Duchess of Sussex who chose to relocate to Canada on a part-time basis presented our government with a unique and unique set of circumstances. The RCMP has been involved with UK officials from the outset on security concerns."
"Because the Duke and Duchess are currently recognized as internationally protected persons, Canada has an obligation to provide security assistance as needed. At Metropolitan Police's request, RCMP has assisted Met since supporting Duke and Duchess to Canada sometimes since November 2019. The assistance will cease in the coming weeks , in line with their change in status. "
Now that Meghan and Harry's security costs will be dropped from Canada's tab, it's still their own responsibility to have protection. On their Sussex Royal website Meghan and Harry said:
"It is agreed that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will continue to demand effective security to protect them and their son. This is based on the Duke's public profile by virtue of his being born in the royal family, his military service, the Duchess's own independent profile. and the shared threat and risk level that has been specifically documented in recent years. "
It basically means that Meghan and Harry have to pay for the security themselves. You know, like ordinary people! Honestly, God bless these two, but I am sure they will be good.
