For someone who used to hardly get sick for a day throughout the year suffering from an autoimmune disease, I can relate to a deteriorating health and body. Usually, it is difficult for others to understand the anxiety of the patients suffering from autoimmune diseases, however mild or severe. Only you realize how weak your body is and how difficult it is to perform even a simple task. Looks like you're getting sick all the time. However, it is possible to prevent the infinite disease.

Usually, autoimmune diseases have long-term consequences for your health rather than being fatal. After you are healed, or the toughest stage has gone, it is necessary to build a healthy routine and body and need discipline. Food is important to nourish the body to fight the weakness one begins to feel after doing something as simple as bending to pick something up. Therefore, it is important to strengthen your core and body internally. Building immunity is one of the crucial steps to getting better.

It would also be helpful to remember that, just like other diseases, there is a risk of recurrence of autoimmune diseases. This is another reason to be extra cautious and live a healthy life when you have arrived enough. These conditions not only affect us physically but leave a long-term mental impact on our bodies. In fact, they can weaken us enough to make us sick all the time. In my case, I am very prone to colds and coughs that would not go away for several weeks together.

How to stop getting sick all the time?

Protect your body

Usually, you are more prone to infections due to a weakened immune system. In my case, my lower body muscles had stiffened and it had become extremely difficult for me to sit on the floor or hold or even bend for a few seconds. The body needs a lot of rest after undergoing a serious illness. Instead of operating your body, understand your body's needs and abilities and respect it. This is a temporary phase and it will recover, don't worry. In the meantime, eat healthy and protect your body from all the factors that can make you sick.

Nutritious food at regular intervals is a must

Along with rest, the only other nutrition your body needs is a very healthy diet. Nutrition given in a balanced proportion helps your body gain strength and endurance. Usually, heavy medication causes an appetite loss and you tend to lose a lot of weight if you are not on steroids. Don't worry too much and just focus on having the best options instead. If you do not want to eat meals, replace fruits and fruit or vegetable juices or soups. Find out what works best for you and try to keep it balanced.

Regular exercise is important

Although I would not suggest that you push your body beyond its ability, indulging in regular gentle exercise is important. In the earlier stages of your illness, you probably wouldn't want to do anything at all. But as you continue your medications, take a healthy dose of sunshine and fresh air. Take short walks or go to a park early in the morning. It will update both body and soul and will help you in those times when you continue to get sick and will keep your body active.

Do not lose mental strength

Undergoing a serious illness not only affects our physical but also our mental health. You may have recovered but your mind may still be under the same strain and it will take time for it to realize that your body has healed. Stopping the medicine is just the first step towards recovery. From there, you need to maintain strict discipline and a healthy routine to lead to a better quality of life. A weakened body is prone to infections and you can continue to get sick all the time but don't lose hope.

A serious illness is similar to a milestone in a person's life. It can either make you or break you. Although relapse or the consequences do not exactly control us, we can always decide how we want to deal with the disease. Let us not forget that our state of health affects our families as well, so it is our responsibility to take care of ourselves emotionally and financially. Always protect yourself with good health insurance.

Until then, Swathy.
