Earlier this week, designer Jean Paul Gaultier hosts its 50th anniversary runway for the spring 2020 couture season in Paris. The designer announced on Instagram that it would be his last show just days before the event.
Despite Gaultier's signature style, the show was an epic experience in the historic Théâtre du Châtelet. Boy George kicked things off by singing Amy Winehouse "Back to Black". Dita Von Teese, Rossy de Palma, Karen Elson, Farida Khelfa and Beatrice Dalle joined models Gigi and Bella Hadid, Winnie Harlow, Paris Jackson and Irina Shayk.
Although Gaultier is perhaps best known for his garments, he has also always been very expressive when it comes to beauty. The makeup and hair in his show is always spectacular. He has released iconic perfumes including Classique, which may have at least partially inspired the design of Kim Kardashian's KKW Body Perfume bottle.
For her Couture show in the spring of 2020, makeup artist Erin Parsons was commissioned to create the makeup look. "Jean Paul is such a young, jovial person," says Parsons attract. "When he talks to you, there is so much excitement for everything and you can feel how much he appreciates the creativity you will give him."
During the show, Gaultier presented a series of looks inspired by his previous collections, while many of the beauty looks seen during the show were extremely modern. Parsons applied stripes of glitter over the model's eyes that flashed under the lights, as well as pan-shaded shades of orange, blue and violet washes. With over 200 looks – and almost as many models – she worked with a team of 45 assistants.
