This new laser makes hair removal almost painless

Although many lasers have promised to be painless, fast, and for sure – many have failed. Seriously, we must suffer through the smell of burning hair and zaps that feels like elastics snap against our skin, in the name of fuzz-free legs and a smooth bikini line ?! It must be a better way.

That's where SPLENDOR X from Lumenis comes in. Not your average hair removal laser, this technologically advanced laser is the first laser of its kind thanks to a mix of Alexandrit and Nd: YAG wavelengths delivered simultaneously. You're probably all "WTF are these wavelengths you're talking about," but in bad terms, this is what kills the hair and closes the follicle.

According to Christian Karavolas, owner of Romeo & Juliette Laser Hair Removal, "The best wavelengths for treating skin tones 1, 2 and 3 (fair and light skin) are an Alexandrit wavelength at 755 nm and the best wavelength for skin tone treatment 4, 5 and 6 (4 are tanned skin and 5 and 6 are dark skin) is a Nd: YAG wavelength at 1064 nm. "And while most lasers use it one or the other, SPLENDOR makes a one-two stroke that combines both.

"To get rid of hair, you need to use high settings for each wavelength, making it more painful and subject to temporary complications," explains Karavola. "With this laser, you can mix both wavelengths at the same time, so you only need to use minimum settings for each wavelength to achieve the same result."

It is also worth pointing out that the Alexandrit wavelength removes the hair on the surface of the skin, while the Nd: YAG wavelength takes care of the epidermis activity. But because we know everything you really care about is the pain, with less energy per wavelength, the treatment means less painful overall. Works for us!

Another advantage of SPLENDOR is that it has very large patches, which means that it quickly processes areas and can be used on all parts of the body – including the face. "Spot size is different because this is the first laser of its kind to use a square and a square beam," adds Karavola. "A square place means there is no overlap, but with a round point, you must overlap 15 to 20% to get full coverage."

Um who has time for overlaps? Not us, it's safe. SPLENDOR's anti-overlap technology also promises safer and faster treatments and less missed hair, which means less time on the bed and more time on the beach! (Once you have given your skin time to heal, it is to avoid the sun for 72 hours before laser and a few days after-laser is strongly encouraged so that you do not risk burning, scarring and damaging your skin seriously.)

Regarding how much time it takes to treat different parts of the body, it depends on it. "The laser has many spot sizes where the larger spot size is 27 x 27, which can treat a full back of five minutes at three pulses per second," says Karavola. "Weapons, legs and chest are also about five minutes, and a face is usually 10 minutes, which one needs to be more accurate."

Although we have become poetic about how much more bearable this new laser is (in the pain management category) it's not like you will not know anything, TBH. There is still some heat and still a little zapping, but it is very tolerable than previous lasers. SPLENDOR also provides outbreaks of cold air on the skin every time a wavelength is dispensed, so there is also the nice surprise.

If you feel any irritation after treatment, Karavolas recommends applying a current cream like Aloe Vera or Vitamin K to calm the skin.

Now on nitty gritty: the numbers. Of course, hair removal is not cheap, otherwise waxing and razors would be out of the window. But shelling out the big money in exchange for a life sense of razors, shrimps, nicks, cuts, ingrowns and rashes? We are here for it. Here is the distribution of individual session costs:

Upper lip: $ 75
Chin: $ 75
Full Face: $ 350
Bikini line: $ 200
Full leg: $ 500 to $ 700

Although an average of 4-8 treatments (between 6 to 12 weeks at a time) is the norm, depending on the body of the unwanted hair, hormonal areas like the face and upper arms may require more than six sessions with temporary touch ups one or two times per year. (You can order a SPLENDOR X of Lumenis laser hair removal time here).

Of course, it's pretty stupid, so if you do not have the money to splash, there are lots of other effective hair removal techniques if you do not have natural body hair, not your jam. Check out our guide for the best way to remove unwanted hair here.
